Our first Sacramento Home Improvement Contractor report was conducted on Replacement Window Contractors in or near the greater Sacramento area. This research was conducted January 2007.

The Report Overview:

“What does this report show?”

Of the 44 window replacement contractor web sites we reviewed, which would come up on page-1 of Google when searching for window replacement contractors in the Sacramento, Roseville and Folsom areas?

The results were great…for Werner and Sons that is. Their web site came up 23 times on page one of Google for some of the most used terms when customers are searching for window replacement.

Other than Werner and Sons, only three sites came up, and only one time for one search term:

o Afhii.com

o Hallswindowcenter.com

o Renewalbyanderson.com

“What does this mean for your business?”

What this illustrates is this; there are thousands of searches happening on Google each month for window replacement services. Because most clicks happen on page 1, if you are not there, you won’t get the call. Similar in concept to how yellow pages used to work – if you are not there and near the front of listings, you wouldn’t get the call.

So, of the 2,855 Sacramento area window replacement searches done in the greater market last month, these companies were the only to get the direct click… Werner, Halls, Afhii and Replacement Windows by Anderson.

“But I pay a Lead Generation Service to be on page 1 already…”

We know, we see them. There is nothing wrong with this approach at all. Lead sharing is a great way to go. I strongly advocate programs like ServiceMagic, Referred Excellence and others – they work. However, it is not the same as you having the click all to your self. Like everything else it comes down to ROI – if you are making more than you are spending, keep it up! Just make sure those same dollars, spent in a slightly different way, couldn’t work even harder for you.

Take the Werner and Sons example; for 23 of the most used terms, they come up on page 1 and they don’t share that lead/click with anyone else. This is similar in many ways, to having someone walk into your and only your showroom, not a showroom shared by 20 other window replacement contractors.

Note:

The list was pulled from Google web site research only. It appears that there were at least double this number that did not have a web site at all. Clearly, there is little chance of pulling an internet lead without a web site, however it can be done through third-party sites such as City search, Google local, etc.

In no way is this report meant to suggest that these are all of the search terms used or all of the web sites that should be examined. This is meant only to illustrate the huge opportunity for lead generation that exists that is currently only benefiting a very smart few.
